Crochet baby bonnet are very easy to make, its so great for baby gift and can be made with just one skein of yarn. Crochet baby bonnet can be fun to make and works up super fast. I have designed a number of crochet baby bonnets and you can find the different crochet baby bonnet patterns here.

The sprig crochet baby bonnet pattern is a great pattern for a cute little bonnet hat for newborn. This fast and easy crochet baby bonnet has a decorative edging that adds to its beauty. This crochet baby bonnet can be worked up in less than an hour. The written PDF pattern contain instructions for two sizing options, the 0-6 months and 6-12 months sizes. The 0-6 months size of this crochet baby bonnet pattern is contain in this post.

I used light worsted weight milk cotton yarn for this crochet bonnet it is a 50g ball of yarn and I still had leftover. You can use any light worsted weight yarn of your choice.

Materials

Light worsted weight yarn -1 ball of 100g

5.5 mm crochet hook

Stitch markers

Scissors

Stitch Guide (US Version)

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single crochet

Dc: Double Crochet

Slst: Slip stitch

* *: repeat the instructions between the asterisk

Gauge:

48 stitches /4 rounds = 4.25 inches in Dc

Pattern note

  • Ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Ch 3 counts as a stitch.

Pattern Instructions

0-6 months

Round 1: Make a magic ring, Ch 2, make 1 Dc into the magic ring , mark stitch, work additional 11 Dc in the ring. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (12 Dc)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch and in each stitch across. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (24 Dc)

Round 3: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1 Dc in the next stitch 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in the last stitch. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (36 Dc)

Round 4: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next two stitches 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last two stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (48 Dc)

Round 5: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next three stitches 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last three stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (60 Dc)

We will work in rows from here on

Row 6: Slst into the next stitch and the stitch after, Ch 3, 2sc in the next stitch, Ch 2, 2 Sc in the next stitch, *skip 2, 2 Sc in the next stitch, Ch 2, 2 Sc in the next stitch* finish row with skip 1, Sc in the next stitch, leave the last stitch unworked.

Row 7: Ch 3, turn. 2 Sc, Ch 2, 2 Sc in the Ch 2 space from the previous row, reach over to the next Ch 2 space, *2 Sc, Ch 2, 2 Sc* into the Ch 2 space,repeat in each Ch 2 space across. End row with a Sc in the Ch 3 space from the previous row.

Row 8-16: Repeat row 7

STRAP

Row 1: from the end of row 16, Ch 39, Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Sc on the side of the Sc from row 16, *2 Sc in the Ch 3 space, 1 Sc on the side of the next Sc* continue till row 6 ending with a Sc, Sc into the unworked Dc from row 6, Sc into the 2 skipped stitches from row 6. Continue with *2 Sc in the Ch 3 space, 1 Sc on the side of the next Sc* end with 2 Sc in the Ch 3 space on row 16, Ch 39

Row 2: Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Sc through the Sc from the previous row till you get to the other strap. Slst to the first slst of the strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

Continue with *2 Dc in the Ch 3 space, 1 Dc on the side of the next Dc* end with 2 Dc in the Ch 3 space on row 16, Ch 39

Row 2: Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Dc through the Dc from the previous row till you get to the other strap. Slst to the first slst of the strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
