ESSENCE CROCHET BABY BONNET | FREE PATTERN

This is yet another addition to the list of crochet baby bonnet I have designed. This easy crochet baby bonnet perfect compliment the essence crochet baby cardigan. It is perfect for cold days. I love how the rich texture of this easy crochet bonnet pattern makes it very cute. Make the essence crochet baby bonnet for little ones or as a gift for baby shower. Follow this free crochet baby bonnet pattern and get your baby ready for the winter season with this warm and adorable crochet baby bonnet.

DESIGN

This crochet baby bonnet was at first worked in the round, then in rows. The part worked in round is worked in double crochet. The beautiful texture of this crochet baby bonnet is achieved with the modified alpine stitch. It has a very bold and beautiful texture.

EASY

The Essence Crochet baby bonnet pattern is very easy to make, it has clear instructions, once you get the hang of the modified alpine stitch, you can can make it with minimal attention.

TEXTURE

This free crochet baby bonnet pattern has a very thick texture, which makes it perfect for the cold weather. Make this adorable crochet baby bonnet for your cute little ones this winter.

YARN

I used a cute worsted weight yarn that is perfect for baby projects for this crochet baby bonnet pattern. You can use any worsted weight yarn of your choice. You can mix colors or even use verigated yarn.

SIZES

The essence crochet baby cardigan pattern provides instructions for two sizing options, including 0-6 months and 6-12 months

ESSENCE CROCHET BABY BONNET | FREE PATTERN

Materials
Dk weight yarn -1 balls of 100g
5.5 mm crochet hook
Stitch markers
Scissors

Stitch Guide (US Version)

Ch: Chain
Sc: Single Crochet
DC: Double Crochet
MAS: Modified Alpine Stitch
Yarn over, insert the hook around the front post of the desired stitch, yarn over, pull through (you have three loops on your hook, yarn over insert through the same spot, yarn over, pull through ( you have five loops on your hook) yarn over pull through four, yarn over pull through two.
Slst: Slip Stitch

  • *: repeat the instructions between the asterisk

Gauge :
15 stitches /8 rows = 10 cm/4 inches in Dc

Pattern note

  • Ch 1 or Ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • This bonnet is worked top down

Pattern Instructions

0-6 months

Round 1: Make a magic ring, Ch 2, make 1 Dc into the magic ring , mark stitch, work additional 11 Dc in the ring. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (12 Dc)
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch and in each stitch across. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (24 Dc)
Round 3: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch,*1Dc in the next two stitches 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last two stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (32 Dc)
Round 4: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next three stitches 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last three stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (40 Dc)
Round 5: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next four stitches 2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last four stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (48 Dc)

We will work in rows from here on

Row 6: Slst into the next stitch and the stitch after, Ch 1, Dc in the same stitch, Dc into each stitch across. Do not work into the last stitch. (45 stitches)
Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc into the first stitch and into each stitch across (45 stitches)
Row 8: Ch 2,turn. Dc in the first stitch, mark the first stitch. MAS around the post of the 2nd stitch from two rows below, Dc in the next stitch, MAS around the post of the next stitch from two rows below repeat across. Finish the row with a Dc in the last stitch. (45 stitches)
Row 9: Ch 1, turn. Sc into the first stitch and into each stitch across (45 stitches)
Row 10: Ch 2,turn. Dc in the first two stitches, mark the first stitch. MAS around the post of the 3rd stitch from two rows below, Dc in the next stitch, MAS around the post of the next stitch from two rows below repeat across. Finish the row with a Dc in the last two stitches. (45 stitches)
Row 11: Ch 1, turn. Sc into the first stitch and into each stitch across (45 stitches)
Rows 12-15: Repeat rows 8-11
Rows 16&17: Repeat row 8&9
Row 18: Ch 1,turn. Sc in first stitch, skip 1, 5 Dc in the next stitch, skip 1, Sc in next stitch repeat across. Finish the row with 5 Dc in the next stitch, skip 1, Sc in last stitch. Do not cut yarn.
STRAP
Row 1: from the end of row 18, Ch 39, Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Sc on the side of the Sc from row 18, Work 1 Sc through the side of each of the remaining rows (13 Sc) work into the 3 skipped stitches from row 6. Work 1 Sc through each row on the other side, (13 Sc) Ch 39
Row 2: Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Sc through the Sc from the previous row till you get to the other strap. Slst to the first slst of the strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends.

We will work in rows from here on

STRAP
Row 1: from the end of row 18, Ch 39, Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Dc on the side of the Dc from row 18, Work 1 Dc through the side of each of the remaining rows (13 Dc) work into the 3 skipped stitches from row 6. Work 1 Dc through each row on the other side, (13 Dc) Ch 39
Row 2: Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Dc through the Dc from the previous row till you get to the other strap. Slst to the first slst of the strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends.
