This twisted crochet headband is designed using the Yo-slst. It has a ribbed detailing characterized by working into the back loops only, it fits perfectly even if you have thin hair. It looks great in just about any colour, even in neutral colours.
With this pattern, you can make the twisted headband in four sizing options for child, small adult, medium adult and large adult sizes.

5.0 mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle

Ch: Chain
Yo-Slst: Yarn over Slip stitch: yarn over insert to hook into a specified stitch, yarn over pull through (three loops on your hook), pull the first loop on your hook through the remaining two loops to complete the stitch
BLO: Back loops only
Gauge :
16 stitches /14 rows = 10 cm/4 inches in Yo-slst
Pattern note
- The headband is worked flat. Chain up for the circumference of the head and the number of rows is the height of the headband.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- When making the last stitch before changing colours, start with yarn over insert to hook into a specified stitch, pull the old colour beneath the hook and in front towards you, pick up the new yarn, yarn over pull through (three loops on your hook), pull the first loop on your hook through the remaining two loops to complete the stitch.
- I use row 1 to determine the right side you can use either side
Pattern instructions
With colour A Ch 35(37,39,42), make a slip knot with colour B and Ch 36(38,40,43)
Row 1: With colour B. Skip the first chain, Yo-slst into the second chain from the hook and into the next 33(35,37,40) chains, make the last stitch in colour B while changing colour, with colour A, Yo-slst in the remaining chains across. 70(74,78,84) stitches
Row 2: With Colour A, Ch 1, turn. Yo-slst in the back loop only of the first stitch and into back loops only of the next 33(35,37,40) stitches, make the last stitch in colour A while changing colour, with colour B Yo-slst in the remaining stitches across. 70(74,78,84) stitches.
Row 3: With Colour B, Ch 1, turn. Yo-slst in the back loop only of the first stitch and into back loops only of the next 33(35,37,40) stitches, make the last stitch in colour B while changing colour, with colour A Yo-slst in the remaining stitches across. 70(74,78,84) stitches
Rows 4-14: repeat rows 2 and 3, till row 14. You should end with a repeat of row 2. Ch 1 and cut yarn. Leave a long tail. 70(74,78,84) stitches.
Finishing
With the right side facing, fold the headband mid way as shown below, sew it in place with a tapestry needle.
Fold the remaining openings over it and sew in place.
Weave in all ends.
