Gladiator Sandals always looks great on babies’ feet and this crochet gladiator sandals is no exception. The sole is worked flat, so you don’t have to worry about making soles in the round.
The gladiator is one of a kind. It’s unique and the instructions are so easy to follow.
With this pattern, you can make cute baby gladiator sandals by working the soles in rows and it’s more convenient and faster than working in the round and you can be sure that your sandals will come out the same size. Heck Yeah! You won’t have to make a third sandal just to have two match up!

Materials:
3.5 mm crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn (100g of each colour)
Colour A = White
Colour B = Pink
Stitch markers
Yarn needle
Difficulty:
Advanced beginner
Gauge :
3.5 mm – 18 stitches /16 rows= 10 cm/4 inch square in Sc
Stitches (US Version):
Ch: Chain
Sc: Single Crochet
Hdc: Half double crochet
Slst: Slip stitch
Pattern notes
- Ch 1 or 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch
- The bootie is worked flat and bottom up
- 3.5mm crochet hook is only for size 3-6 months
Pattern Instructions:
Sole
Ch 29
Row 1: 1 Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, Mark the stitch with a stitch marker, 1 Sc in each stitch across. 28 stitches
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 Hdc in the 1st stitch, mark the very first stitch, 1 Hdc in the next 10 stitches, 2 Hdc in each of the next 6 stitches, 1 Hdc in the next 10 stitches, 2 Hdc in the last stitch. 36 stitches
Row 3: Ch 2, 2 Hdc in the 1st stitch, mark the very first stitch, 1 Hdc in the next 34 stitches, 2 Hdc in the last stitch 38 stitches. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
Make 4 soles. 2 for each sandal
Left Sandal
Back hold
Row 1: starting from either end of the sole, Slst with colour B, Ch 1, Sc in the 1st stitch, mark stitch, Sc in the next 5 stitches. 6 stitches
Row 2: Ch 2, Hdc in the first stitch, mark stitch, Hdc in the next 5 stitches. 6 stitches.
Row 3-7: repeat row 2
Row 8: Ch 1, Sc in the first stitch, mark stitch, Sc in the next 5 stitches 6 stitches. Ch 1 to secure, cut yarn.
Repeat row 1-8 for the other side of the sole
1st strap
From the both side of the back hold, count 7 stitches and mark them, there will be 12 stitches left for the front of the sandal. From the right side, in the marked 7th stitch, Slst with colour B, Ch 12 and Slst to the marked stitch on the other side. Ch 1, turn. Work 1 Sc in each of the 12 chains and Slst back to the beginning. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
2nd strap
From the right side of the back hold, count 5 stitches, Slst in it with colour B, Ch 13 and Slst to the left 3rd stitch from the back hold. Ch 1, turn. Work 1 Sc in each of the 13 chains and Slst back to the beginning. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
3rd strap
From the right side of the back hold, count 3 stitches, Slst in the 3rd stitch with colour B, Ch 16. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 Sc in each chain 15 stitches. Slst back to the beginning. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
4th strap
Go to the top of row 7 of the back hold on the right, chain 14. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 Sc in each chain 13 stitches, Slst to the top of row 8. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
5th strap
Slst on the top of the 5th row on the back hold, Ch 16, Skip 5 stitches, Sc in each of the remaining 11 chains and Slst to the top of row 6. Ch 1 and cut yarn. The 5 skipped stitches forms the button hole.
Slst the first 4 stitches of the 4th strap to 2 of the skipped stitches of 5th strap and the next 2 stitches on the 5th strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
Slst the first 4 stitches of the 3rd strap to 2 of the skipped stitches of 5th strap and the next 2 stitches on the 5th strap. Ch 1 and cut yarn.
The 3rd, 4th and 5th straps are joined together.
Cut all excess yarn
Right sandal
It is the same process except the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th strap will start from the left. The 1st strap is the same
With the right side facing, sew up tthe sole
Sew up the inner side of the back hold
Sew up the second sole
Match both soles and connect the soles round with Slst in each stitch through both soles
Sew buttons on the 6th row of back hold.
