This is my very first crochet baby cardigan pattern. It is super easy are beginner friendly This easy crochet baby cardigan pattern is perfect for keeping your baby warm and cozy. The stitches are tight and have no spaces in between. I love the adorable texture of this easy crochet cardigan pattern.

DESIGN

The easy peasy crochet baby cardigan is super easy as the name implies. It is worked top down. The top part is worked in double crochet. The beautiful texture of this simple crochet baby cardigan is achieved with the combination of double crochet and slip stitch . It matches perfectly with the easy crochet baby bonnet pattern.

The easy peasy crochet baby cardigan pattern is very easy to make, it uses easy crochet stitches to achieve this beautiful texture. It is a very beginner friendly pattern and also has video tutorial to make it easier for visual learners.

4.0 and 5.0 mm crochet hook

Light worsted weight yarn – 2 (100g) balls

5 pieces of 15mm buttons

  • Ch 1 or Ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • The cardigan is worked top down

Row 1: Skip 2 chains, Dc in the 3rd chain from the hook, Dc in each stitch across. 52 stitches.

Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Dc 7, 2 Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc all in the next stitch, Dc 10, 2 Dc , Ch 1, 2 Dc all in the next stitch, Dc 14, 2 Dc , Ch 1, 2 Dc all in the next stitch, Dc 10, 2 Dc , Ch 1, 2 Dc all in the next stitch, Dc 7. 64 Dc

Dc 17, Dc in the Ch 1 space, skip the next 30 stitches, fold bodice to make Ch 1 space match evenly with the next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, Dc in the next Ch 1 Space, Dc in the next 34 stitches, Dc in the next Ch 1 space, skip the next 30 stitches, fold bodice to make Ch 1 space match evenly with the next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, Dc in the next Ch 1 Space, Dc in the last 17 stitches. 74 stitches.

Row 8: Ch 2,turn. Dc in the first stitch,Dc in each stitch across, including the Ch 1 at both arm holes. 74 stitches.

With 5.0 mm crochet hook

Row 9: Ch 1,turn. Slst in the first stitch,mark stitch, *Dc in the next stitch, Slst in the next stitch* Repeat across the row. Finish row with Dc in the last stitch. 74 stitches.

Button Band

With the right side facing you, reattach yarn to the bottom right of the cardigan,

Row 1: Ch 1, Sc on the side of the first stitch,mark stitch, Sc on the side of each row, till you get to the rows of Dc at the upper part of the cardigan 23 Sc, for the rows of Dc, make 2 Sc on the side of each row . total 39 Sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, Sc in the first stitch, Sc in each stitch across. 39 Sc

Row 3: Repeat row 2. Ch 1 and cut yarn

With 4.0 mm crochet hook

Buttonhole Band

With the right side facing you, reattach yarn to the top left of the cardigan,

Row 1: Ch 1, 2 Sc on the side of each of the Dc rows,16 Sc on the side of the remaining rows all the way across, total 39 Sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first stitch, *Ch 1, skip 1, Sc in the next 8 stitches* repeat 3 more times, Ch 1, skip 1, Sc in the last stitch.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, Sc in the first stitch, Sc in each stitch across including the Ch 1 space. 39 Sc. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

With 4.0 mm crochet hook

Sleeves

Reattach yarn to the Ch 1 made when joining the sleeves,

Round 1: Ch 2, Dc in the same stitch, 2 Dc on the side of the Dc next to it, Dc in the next 30 stitches, 2 Dc on the side of the next Dc, slst to the first stitch of the round. 35 stitches

Round 2: Ch 2, Dc2tog, Dc in each stitch around. Slst to the first stitch of the round. (34 Stitches)

Rounds 3-11: Repeat round 2. (25 stitches)

Round 12: Ch 2, Dc in each stitch around. Slst to the first stitch of the round. (25 stitches)

Round 13: Ch 1, Sc in each stitch around. Slst to the first stitch of the round. (25 stitches)

Rounds 14-15: Repeat round 13. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

Repeat instructions for second sleeve

Finishing

Sew buttons to the second row of the button band, make sure it aligns well with the button holes.

Rounds 3-11: Repeat round 2. (25 stitches)

Round 12: Ch 2, Tr in each stitch around. Slst to the first stitch of the round. (25 stitches)

Round 13: Ch 1, Dc in each stitch around. Slst to the first stitch of the round. (25 stitches)

Rounds 14-15: Repeat round 13. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

Repeat instructions for second sleeve

Finishing

Sew buttons to the second row of the button band, make sure it aligns well with the button holes.
