I have previously designed the texture crochet baby bonnet which was textured and cozy as the name implies and then I designed the lacy crochet baby bonnet that was lacy and beautiful. This Puff baby bonnet is a mixture of texture and lace. The final piece is so beautiful. It is so easy to make and it is beginner friendly.

DESIGN

This easy puff crochet baby bonnet makes use of easy crochet stitches to achieve this beautiful mixture of lace and texture. It also has a beautiful edging. You can pair this easy crochet baby bonnet with the pleated crochet baby dress pattern as they share the same texture.

BEGINNER FRIENDLY

This easy crochet baby bonnet has a two row repeat alternating V stitch and Puff stitch. it is very beginner friendly and an easy crochet baby bonnet to make.

YARN

I used light worsted weight yarn for this easy crochet baby bonnet pattern. You can use any light worsted weight yarn of your choice.

SIZES

The written PDF pattern contains two sizing options. 0-6 months and 6-12 months sizes. The 0-6 size is written below.

CROCHET PUFF BABY BONNET

Materials

Light worsted weight yarn -1 balls of 100g

5.0 mm crochet hook

Stitch markers

Scissors

Stitch Guide (US Version)

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single crochet

DC: Double Crochet

V stitch: Dc Ch 2 Dc 

Puff stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the specified stitch/space.  Yarn over again and pull up a long loop.  (Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space.  Yarn over again and pull up a long loop) three more times.  Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on your hook.

Slst: Slip stitch

Gauge :

16 stitches /10 rows = 10 cm/4 inches in Hdc

Pattern note

Ch 1 or Ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

Ch 3 counts as the first double crochet of the row.

Pattern Instructions

0-6 months

Round 1: Make a magic ring, Ch 2, make 1 Dc into the magic ring , mark stitch,  work additional 11 Dc in the ring. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc.  (12 Dc)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch and in each stitch across. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (24 Dc)

Round 3: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next two stitches  2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last two stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (32 Dc)

Round 4: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next three stitches  2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last three stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (40 Dc)

Round 5: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first stitch, *1Dc in the next four stitches  2 Dc in the next stitch * repeat till the end of round. 1 Dc in each of the last four stitches. Finish the round with a slst to the 1st Dc. (48 Dc)

We will work in rows from here on

Row 6: Slst into the next stitch and the stitch after.  Ch 3,  V stitch in the next stitch, *skip 2, puff stitch in next stitch, Ch 1, skip 2, V stitch in next stitch * repeat across row. Finish row with Dc. Do not work into the last stitch.

Row 7: Ch 3, turn. *Puff stitch into Ch 2 space, Ch 1, *V stitch on top of puff stitch, Puff stitch into Ch 2 space, Ch 1* repeat across row. Finish row with Dc to the top of Ch 3.

Row 8: Ch 3, turn.  V stitch on top of puff stitch, Puff stitch into Ch 2 space, Ch 1, V stitch on top of puff stitch, repeat across row. Finish row with Dc to the top of Ch 3.

Row 9: repeat row 7

Row 10: repeat row 8

Row 11: repeat row 7

Row 12: repeat row 8.

Edging

Row 13: Ch 1,turn. Sc on top of Dc, *Sc on top of next Dc, 2 Sc in Ch 2 space, Sc on top of Dc, Sc on top of Ch 1, Sc on top of puff stitch,  finish row with, Sc on top of next Dc, 2 Sc in Ch 2 space, Sc on top of Dc, Sc on top of Ch 3.

Row 14: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first stitch, Ch 3, 3 Dc into the just worked Sc, skip 3, Sc into next stitch, Ch 3, 3 Dc into the just worked Sc, skip 3 repeat across row, finish row with skip 2, Sc into last stitch. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

STRAP

CH 38, join with a Slst to a side of the bonnet. Work 1 Sc through the side of the 2 rows of edging, Work 2 Sc through the side of each row (16 Sc) work into the 3 skipped stitches from row 6. Work 2 Sc through each row on the other side, 1 Sc through the side of the 2 rows of edging,Ch 39

Slst in the second chain from hook and in each of the remaining 37 chains. Sc through the Sc from the previous row till you get to the chains. Slst in each chain across. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

FINISHING

Weave in all ends.
