Pleated Crochet Baby Dress | Free Pattern

What I love about the crochet pleated baby dress is the pleat detailing. This dress fits babies 0-6 months, the pdf pattern contains instructions for 6-12 months, 12-18 months and 18-24 months. It is so easy to make and it’s beginner friendly as it makes use of simple crochet stitches. It looks great in all colour combinations. The Crochet Puff Baby Bonnet complements this cute baby dress. Materials:

4.0 and 5.0 mm crochet hook

Dk weight yarn

Colour A = Lilac– 2 (100g) balls for all sizes

Colour B = White – 100g ball for all sizes

Stitch markers (Optional)

Yarn needle

4.0 mm

15 stitches /9 rows= 10 cm/4 inch square in Dc

Stitches (US Version):

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single Crochet

Dc: Double Crochet

V-Stitch: Dc Ch 2 Dc

Puff Stitch: Yarn over insert your hook into the specified stitch/space. Yarn over and pull up a long loop. *(Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop)* repeat two more times. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on your hook

Slst: Slip Stitch

Flo: Front Loop Only

Blo: Back loop Only

Tr: Treble Crochet

Pattern Notes:

  • Ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Ch 5 at the beginning of the round counts as a Dc and Ch 2
  • The dress is worked top down
  • For all rounds, when it starts with a V stitch, it ends with a V stitch and when it starts with a puff stitch, ends with a puff stitch.
  • While working the skirt part, move the stitch markers up as you go

Note:

Ch 1 worked into the armpits when making the arm holes on round 7 counts as stitches.

Pleat

Round 8: Ch 2, Dc 29, Dc 8 in Flo, Dc 8 in Blo of the same stitches, Dc 8 in Blo of the same stitches, Dc in the Blo of the next 8, Dc 8 in the Flo of the same stitches, Dc 8 in the Flo of the same stitches, Dc in the remaining 29 stitches. Join round with slst.

Skirt

With 5.0 mm hook

0-6 months

Round 9: Ch 5 (counts as a Dc and Ch 2) Dc in the same stitch (V stitch)* skip 2, puff stitch in the next stitch, Ch 1, skip 2, V stitch in the next* repeat around, finish round with a V stitch, skip 3, slst to 3rd chain of the beginning Ch 5.

Mark the 4th V stitch from the beginning of the row and the 3rd puff stitch from the end.

Round 10: Pull up the yarn, yarn over insert your hook into the Ch 2 space of the V stitch from previous row, and make a puff stitch into it, *make a V stitch on top of the next puff stitch, make a puff stitch on top of the next V stitch*, until you get to the marked stitch,

Rounds 22-27: Repeat rows 20-21

Round 28: Repeat row 20. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

The Bow

With 5.0 mm hook, With Colour B

Ch 19

Row 1: Skip 1st chain from hook, Sc into the 2nd Chain from hook, Sc into each stitch across. (18 Sc)

Row 2:Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first stitch and into each stitch across. (18 Sc)

Row 3-18: Repeat row 2

Edging

Using 5 mm crochet hook

With Colour B

Ch 3, Tr in the first stitch, slst in the next, *Tr in the next, slst in the next,* repeat till the end of row, continue *Tr in the next, slst in the next,* on the side by working into the side of each row, continue around the whole piece, slst to the first stitch of the edging. Ch 1 and cut yarn.

Cut a long piece of colour A and wrap around the middle of the piece to form a bow.

Attach the bow to the middle of the dress on row 8

Finishing

Sew on a button to the second stitch on the right side of the back.

close the button in between the first and second stitch on the left.

Weave in all ends.
