Beanie On Fire Crochet Hat Pattern

The crochet ‘beanie on fire’ hat uses the tapestry crochet technique to make the burning fire. The hat requires the knowledge of tapestry crochet. This is a cute hat to make this halloween.

This post contains the written instructions for this hat in size small adult size. It’s very easy easy to follow pattern. The written pdf pattern contains three sizing options from child to large adults. The small adult size is written below.

Dk weight yarn

Colour A = Black

Colour B = Yellow

Colour C = Orange

Colour D = Red

5.5 mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Ch: Chain

Hdc: Half double crochet

Scblo: Single Crochet in back loops only

Slst: Slip stitch

Gauge :

14 stitches /9 rows= 10 cm/4 inch square in Hdc

Pattern note

  • Chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Knowledge of tapestry crochet is key in working this pattern
  • The beanie is worked flat and sideways
  • Scblo stitches serves as the brim of the hat, in the instructions of this pattern, it is worked in red yarn, however, if you want the brim in a different colour, you can work the Scblo stitches in any colour of your choice.

Pattern instructions

Teen, Small Adult Size

With colour A Ch 35,

Row 1: Sc in the second and third chain from hook, Hdc in the next 13 stitches (Black), finish 13th Hdc with a Slst of colour B, Hdc in the next 2 stitches (Yellow), finish 2nd Hdc with a Slst of colour C, Hdc in the next 3 stitches (Orange), finish 3rd Hdc with a Slst of colour D, Hdc in the next 6 stitches (Red), Scblo in the remaining 8 stitches (34 stitches)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Scblo in the first 8 stitches, Hdc in the next 4 stitches (Red), finish 3rd Hdc with a Slst of colour C, Hdc in the next 3 stitches (Orange), finish 2nd Hdc with a Slst of colour B, Hdc in the next 5 stitches (Yellow), finish 5th Hdc with a Slst of colour A, Hdc in the next 12 stitches (Black), Sc in the last two stitches (34 stitches)

Row 3: Ch 1,turn. Sc in the first two stitches, Hdc 15(black), 3(Yellow), 3(Orange) 3(red), Scblo in the remaining 8 stitches (34 stitches).

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Scblo in the first 8 stitches, Hdc 3(red), 3(orange), 1(yellow), 7 (black) 4 (yellow), 6 (black), Sc in the last two stitches (34 stitches)

Row 49: Ch 1,turn. Sc in the first two stitches, Hdc 17(black), 2(yellow), 2(orange), 3(red), Scblo in the remaining 8 stitches (34 stitches).

Row 50: Ch 1, turn. Scblo in the first 8 stitches, Hdc 3(red), 2(orange), 2(yellow), 17(black), Sc in the last two stitches (34 stitches)

Row 51: Ch 1,turn. Sc in the first two stitches, Hdc 13(black), 2(yellow), 3(orange), 6(red), Scblo in the remaining 8 stitches (34 stitches)

Finishing

Fold in half, and Slst together, making sure that the black chain at the beginning of the project does not bleed through, change colour your are using to Slst, when the colour of the project changes. Ch 1 and cut yarn when you get to top stitch.

Using a tapestry needle, gather the top of the beanie and close the top. Add a pompom if you choose.
